Anti-botulismic effect of toosendanin and its facilitatory action on miniature end-plate potentials.

چکیده
The time for blocking neuromuscular transmission by botulinum toxin is lengthened in phrenic nerve-diaphragm preparation of rats sacrificed at various times after subcutaneous injection of toosendanin (7 mg/kg). This effect of toosendanin manifests itself 15 min after injection and lasts for 3 days. During this period the frequency of miniature end-plate potentials is increased.

Cure of experimental botulism and antibotulismic effect of toosendanin.
Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs), a group of bacterial proteins that comprise a light chain disulfide linked a heavy chain, are the most lethal biotoxins known to mankind. By inhibiting neurotransmitter release, BoNTs cause severe neuroparalytic disease, botulism. A series of important findings in the past 10 years which displayed the molecular targets of BoNTs and hence proposed a four-step actio...
متن کاملNeuromuscular transmission modulation by adenosine upon aging.
In infant rats adenosine A(2A) receptor-mediated modulation of neuromuscular transmission predominates over A1 receptor-mediated neuromodulation. We investigated whether aging affects this A(2A)/A(1) receptor balance. Evoked (EPPs) and miniature end plate potentials (MEPPs) were recorded from single fibers of (weeks-old) infant (3-4), young adult (12-16), older (36-38), and aged (80-90) male ra...
متن کاملInhibitory action of Ruthenium red on neuromuscular transmission.
The effect of Ruthenium Red on synaptic transmission was examined at isolated junctions of the frog, by conventional methods for stimulation and intracellular recording. Ruthenium Red (2.5-10.0 muM) reduces the synaptic potential to subthreshold levels. An analysis of this phenomenon shows that the main action of Ruthenium Red is on the presynaptic nerve terminal where it decreases the number o...

PURPOSE To assess the probable actions of ropivacaine, 50% enantiomeric excess bupivacaine mixture (S75-R25) and levobupivacaine on neuromuscular transmission in vitro. METHODS Thirty rats were distributed into groups (n=5) according to the drug used: ropivacaine, bupivacaine (S75-R25) and levobupivacaine. The concentration used for the three local anesthetics (LA) was 5 µg.mL. (-1)The follow...
متن کاملActions and release characteristics of secretin in the rat cerebellum
Secretin, a peptide hormone of the gastrointestinal system, has been implicated in the etiology of autism. Our laboratory previously demonstrated the expression of secretin and its receptors in specific central neurons, and found for the first time that secretin is neuroactive in the cerebellum. We showed that bath application of secretin facilitated the release of GABA from terminals of basket...
